Christine Nichols: Driving Change Across Continents
When Christine Nichols co-founded Atlantic Pacific Global Logistics in 2000, the freight industry wasn’t exactly known for its diversity.
It was traditional, male-dominated, and not an easy space for women to break into, let alone lead. But that didn’t stop her.
From Vision to Global Impact
Alongside her husband, Ashley, Christine Nichols started Atlantic Pacific Group and Atlantic Pacific Global Logistics with little more than vision, grit and determination.
From those early days, the business has grown into a global logistics powerhouse, turning over more than £60 million and employing 220 people across the UK, USA and Ireland. As the Atlantic Pacific Group marks its 25th anniversary, celebrated throughout 2026, the scale of that achievement is undeniable.
For many entrepreneurs, that would be the headline. For Christine, it’s only the beginning.
Building a Global Legacy
Over two decades, Atlantic Pacific has expanded from a family-run logistics firm into an international operation managing complex supply chains, freight forwarding and transport across borders and time zones. Christine has guided the business through economic challenges, political shifts and the chaos of the pandemic, all while championing innovation, sustainability and people-first leadership.
That commitment to excellence and ethical growth recently earned the company one of the UK’s highest honours; The King’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade. It’s a recognition of both scale and integrity, a rare combination in such a fiercely competitive industry.
Breaking Barriers in a Man’s World
When Christine entered the freight industry, women in leadership were the exception, not the rule. She didn’t wait to be invited in quietly.
In 2013, she became the first female member of the London Freight Club, founded in 1953. A decade later, she made history again as its first female Chair. This wasn’t a symbolic milestone. It was a signal that the industry was ready for progress.
Inside her own business, Christine has led by example, ensuring that 50% of Atlantic Pacific’s board members are women. In a sector still overwhelmingly male at senior level, that decision speaks volumes.
Climbing Mountains, Literally
Christine’s appetite for challenge extends far beyond business.
She has climbed to Everest Base Camp (17,598ft), not for a photo opportunity, but as part of a lifelong commitment to pushing her limits. That same drive has taken her to volunteer at Mother Teresa’s Mission in India, offering hands-on support where it is most needed.
She is also the founder and Executive Chair of Unity in Community, a charitable foundation supporting local and national initiatives. One standout example saw the organisation act as logistics partner for Gratitude, a national art exhibition paying tribute to key workers post-Covid. The project moved 51 large-scale statues across four UK cities, raising vital funds for NHS Charities Together.
For Christine, success and service are inseparable. Her belief is simple: if you have the means to make a difference, you have a responsibility to do so.
Resilience Turned Into Action
Behind the business leader is a woman of extraordinary resilience. A breast cancer survivor, Christine has transformed personal adversity into purposeful leadership.
As Chair of Trustees for the Lady McFadden Breast Cancer Trust, she champions early detection, awareness and support for women navigating their own diagnoses. Under her leadership, the charity has opened its first wellbeing sanctuary and approaches its 50th anniversary in 2026.
Giving Back at Scale
Christine is also a long-standing supporter, fundraiser and partner to Haven Hospices, applying the same determination she brings to business to her charitable work.
Since 2021, she has provided logistics support for three major public art trails in Southend-on-Sea, moving hundreds of sculptures, raising £1.5 million for good causes and attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors to the city.
A Champion for Others
Christine’s influence reaches far beyond boardrooms and trade routes. She has been a foster mother, a mentor and a sought-after speaker on global stages, using her platform to encourage more women to step into leadership – particularly in industries where they remain underrepresented.
Her message is clear: don’t wait to be invited. Show up. Stand tall. Change the space you’re in.
In 2024, she was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Enterprise Vision Awards, recognising not just her commercial success, but her courage, generosity and commitment to lifting others as she climbs.

Civic Leadership and Community Impact
Christine’s leadership is rooted in place as well as purpose. She is a member of the Southend Tourist Partnership Board, supporting economic growth across the city, and the founder and lead sponsor of the SAVS Awards, celebrating more than 400 charities and 9,000 volunteers.
She supports numerous community initiatives throughout the year, including the Southend-on-Sea New Year’s Eve Fireworks, and is currently leading a Southend City Council initiative to mark the anniversary of the city’s twinning with Sopot, Poland.
Why She Inspires Us
Christine inspires us through her resilience, generosity and unwavering belief in doing good alongside doing business. She proves that leadership isn’t just about growth, but about responsibility, courage and creating impact that lasts.
For Christine, leadership is not measured by scale alone, but by responsibility, service and the legacy you leave behind.
